San Felipe Stakes winner California Chrome is emerging as a top Kentucky Derby contender after his stellar training sessions at Los Alamitos have drawn attention.
The California-bred, who has won three straight races, continued preparations for Saturday’s Santa Anita Derby with a sharp four furlong work in :46.40 on March 29. “I had him galloping out in a minute flat,” trainer Art Sherman said after the work, via Los Alamitos publicity.
In addition to the speedy works, it appears California Chrome is one cool customer.
Art’s son, Alan, said: “I came back to barn to check on the horses after Friday’s quake. All were awake except for Cal Chrome. He was resting.”
